On November 11th a gorgeous field of metal poppies was the site of a flag raising, dedicated to veterans in the local community. The poppies were all made by local veterans in BOCES classes at the Mt. Morris location under the tutelage of Olie Olson.
The memorial can be found on the property of the Livingston County Highway Department on Gypsy Lane, which was chosen since it could provide the space for such a large project. The cement under the poppies is painted as an American flag, with the poppies themselves lining the red and white stripes.
For many veterans, participation in creating the poppies was the first time they had ever welded, a great opportunity to learn something new and connect with fellow veterans. The project attracted veterans old and new to participate, making 250 poppies in total.
D.P. Tool was able to provide the bearings that the students used for allowing the metal poppies to spin in place. We employ several veterans at D.P. Tool and were deeply honored to help with the project.
